Die erste Stunde

Royal Observatory

The Royal Observatory stands proudly in the centre of Greenwich Park. The red Time Ball on its roof has been falling at exact 13:00 Greenwich Mean Time (or British Summer Time) since 1833. At the time of its invention it was the only reliable time indication for many Londoners and the trading ships mooring on the Thames. Today the ritual is a much liked tourist attraction.
